ALBINO ( White ) DOBERMANS

   IN RESCUE

This page has been created in order to help doberman rescue groups deal with the growing number of albino ( white ) dobermans appearing in rescue across the country. Since albino ( white ) dobermans are distinct from the normal doberman population, since they have special needs, and since rescue groups have some special concerns related to adopting them out, it seems logical to advertise them together in a centralized location like this page.

Please note that these dogs are spread across the United States. If you see a dog you're interested in, please make a note of its location and use the contact information included in that specific dog's description. Many rescue groups will not adopt to homes outside of their own local areas, so please don't be insulted if a rescue tells you that you are too far away to be eligible for adoption.

This page will be updated every Sunday night, so far as my time allows.

This page is mostly intended for use by organized doberman rescue groups; however, if you are a private individual who needs to place an albino doberman I will be happy to consider listing your dog as well. ALL dogs MUST be spayed or neutered before they can be listed on this page. If you have any trouble with this page, or if you wish to list an albino ( white ) doberman on the page, write to adopt@etdr.org for more information. Thanks!

Powder

Powder is a young male Doberman who was found stray in Ennis, TX. The shelter was fooled by his unusual coloring and contacted Weimaraner Rescue, who contacted Doberman Rescue Group to figure out what kind of dog this was. This pink-skinned, cream-and-white coated blue-eyed darling was quickly identified as an albino Doberman.

Powder is a small boy, just about 60 pounds, who seems to be friendly. He appears to like men, women, and children, and is enamored of his small female Dobersister. He hasn’t mixed it up with his Doberbrothers yet, but he has shown no indication that he will be anything but sweet with them.

Powder needs some weight on him, but that’s never hard in his foster home. He also needs work on obedience as well as learning to play like a dog. He is now will on his way to becoming a true Doberman.

If you are interested in adopting Powder, please contact Doberman Rescue Group, Inc. in Oklahoma, at okdobie-olp@olp.net

Spirit

Spirit is a cropped and docked albino boy. He is a sweet boy that loves to go for rides. As with all young dogs he will need a good obedience class. Spirit is crate trained.  Gets along with female dogs, no male dogs!! Cats don't bother him one way or the other. He'd be fine as an only dog, he can keep himself amused for hours with a jolly ball! I have noticed particularly this weekend that his eyesight isn't the best outside. Inside he is fine, outside in the sun, I can see he really doesnt see us when we are coming up to him. I'm going to buy him the dogsunglasses and see if that helps him. He is crate trained. On the weekends, when we're home, we'll leave him loose in his room for a few hours and he is fine. Not toy aggressive, or food aggressive. Sometimes when playing he can be a little rough, so I would be careful with small kids. Since he basically still has the mind of a pup, he will grab at your arm sometimes when playing. Not at all vicious, but it still hurts. He has a nice thick coat, but has that habit of sucking on his toe. No matter how many toys, pig ears, bones, he has in his kennel, he still sucks on his toe. Oh, he's not a barker. He talks instead. (arrrr-arrr-arrr-ohhh)

Charlotte

Charlotte is a young albino girl with natural ears and a docked tail. She was originally found as a stray, and then taken to an animal shelter when her home could not be found. Charlotte is a lively and playful girl who has lots and lots of energy. She is doing great with other dogs. Charlotte thinks cats are tons of fun to chase, but she doesn't hurt the ones she catches -- so she might do well with very dog-savvy cats, but not fraidy cats!

If you are interested in adopting Charlotte, please contact East Tennessee Doberman Rescue at adopt@etdr.org .

Blondie

Blondie is a sweet girl that was given up because the family had no time for her. She is very loving. She is house broken and crate trained. She has the Dobie lean down and loves to snuggle on the couch. She is good with other dogs and people. However, the original people said she is afraid of men. We have not seen that.

Rosebud

A white winter rose has bloomed at the Dober-lounge! Meet Rosebud (Rosie for short) who was found and named by a wonderful Animal Control Officer in Indiana who found her wandering the cold and snowy streets. Rosie safely made her home under the Officer's desk while they both waited for the weekend when we could finally make the trip to get her. Foster Mom & Dad met Rosie and her great guardian near the Illinois/Indiana border and it was a bit of a tearful goodbye between Officer Dee and Rosebud. Rosie had a long drive but arrived at the Dober-lounge in great spirits and a grin on her beautiful muzzle. She is a very happy girl with a butt that won't stop wiggling. She has been delighted to meet all her new foster brothers and sisters and greets each with a play-bow. Right now Rosie is resting up from her long journey to IDR+ and will visit the Vet soon for a complete check-up and update on her medical requirements. We guesstimate Rosie is about a year and a half old; she is an Albino Doberman and will require extra care throughout her life. We are looking forward to getting to know her better and will update this spot with additional information along with care requirements for Albino Doberman Pinschers.

Vincent

Vincent is a 2 year old albino male with a natural tail and natural ears -- weighing in at about 80 pounds.  He is crate trained and house trained and knows sit, NO, stay (almost), and is learning to walk on a leash.  He is really high energy and loves to play.  He is so very affectionate with all people (he may have a special affinity for females), gets along well with male and female dogs, I don't know about cats. I do not have kids and I haven't seen him with kids, maybe older kids would be better, he still jumps a little.  He very much wants to please although he tests my limits all the time with his strong-willed self!  He has a lot of puppy in him and will sometimes grab household items that are not his toys and try to play with them.  Although he does this, he is very redirectable with his toys, and I always have a lot of toys for him.  He has a little separation anxiety, so I always make sure to give him a Kong with treats and peanut butter when I leave for work and he goes in his crate.

Lucy

Lucy is a 2 year old white doberman. She totally charmed her owners who decided to name her for one of their favorite Beatles' tunes. Her current family is very reluctantly seeking another home for her where she will be an only dog because she has been dog aggressive with their original dobe. She is a heart warmer and has obedience training.

If you are interested in adopting Lucy, please contact Doberman Rescue of San Antonio in Texas, at jhatch@satx.rr.com .

Suede

Suede is the third albino ( white ) doberman in our rescue.  The first 2 were females.  Suede is our first male.  He is a mess.  He was found in our local shelter listed as a Weim.  He had been hit by a car, had huge oozing wounds, and was limping.  He was also skin and bones.....He is so sun sensitive that he is almost blind.  He follows your voice and has knocked myself and my husband on our butts several times.  He can be very sweet and loving with those he loves.  So far that is me first then my husband.  He will bark at anything he perceives to be strange.  Which in his case is everything.  He is extremely dog aggressive.  He is getting better with lots of work.  He does not like anyone touching him that he does not know.  He has knocked himself silly by running into trees. One of my friends and a board member of DRG found Suede some doggie shades.  He loves them!  He will wear them and wait for them to be put on him before he goes outside.  He will not stay outside without me.  He screams and tries to tear the door down.  When we are out with him he is fine.  One of the other dogs taught Suede to bark and growl at my husband.  My husband can not walk into the kitchen without Suede barking at him.  That is getting very old.  For us Suede is not a problem to handle.  However, when he is placed if he ever will be placed, his home will have to be experienced dog people.  They do not have to be experienced Doberman people.  Suede does not fit the Doberman mold.  When we look at him and interact with him we see a dog who has not found his place in the world and never will.  He can't be trusted in situations that a Dobe could be....The other 2 albinos we have are in loving homes.  They are in multi dog households.  The one albino goes everywhere with her Mom.  She is very social but still shy.  Our other is a ring tailed mess.  She will jump on anything that comes near her.  Mainly because she is almost blind like Suede.  We know her limits and do not push her past them.   She is fine with her family and she can come and visit us with no problems.  However, her Mom knows her boundaries.  Albinos are not for the weak of heart.  They get sunburned and have to be watched for skin problems.  They are an oddity.  I would not trade the albinos that I have known.  But, for rescue they are a burden.  It is hard to find good homes for the normal Dobes.  Albinos are special needs and very high maintenance animals.
